Trout Fishing
On The Lower Sacramento River

The Lower Sac begins just above Redding at Keswick Dam and flows 40 trout filled miles to Red Bluff. With the completion of the cold water curtain on Shasta Dam, the water temperatures stay a constant 52 to 54 degrees year-round. This has made the Lower Sac into one of the best tailwater fisheries in the country. I fly fish this river year-round out of the comfort of my 17-foot Willie Boat. Spring on the Lower Sac can bring great fishing when insects hatch in large numbers with fall producing the biggest fish when the trout gorge on salmon eggs. Half-day trips are available; call me now to book your trip.

Salmon Fishing
On The Trinity River

Spring Chinook salmon begin to enter the Trinity River in May and June with fishable numbers in the Junction City area by July depending upon flows. The fall Chinook salmon begin to enter in mid-August and are in fishable numbers by early September. The Trinity River Hatchery has done a great job of revitalizing this fishery after it was decimated by the building of the Trinity and Lewiston Dams. The Trinity River is one of the few rivers left in California allowing the take of Chinook salmon. I fish the Trinity from Lewiston to near Del Loma and pull Kwicfish plugs with sardine wraps, side-drifting roe when necessary. If you would like to book a trip, you will need a salmon punch-card. I will supply all other gear.

Steelhead Fishing
On The Trinity River

Trinity River steelhead follow the fall Chinook salmon and are in fishable numbers by early October. This is the time I put the salmon rods away and bring the fly rods back out to focus on nymph fishing these sea-run trout. The past few years the Trinity River has had the best steelhead numbers in the state of California with fish in the system from October to March. I fly fish this river out of the comfort of my heated 17-foot Willy Boat using everything from small Mayfly nymphs, to egg patterns to Stonefly nymphs. You will need a steelhead punch-card, waders and possibly rain gear. Give me a call today to book your trip.
